FitoWise project
FitoWise is an EIT Food funded project designed to empower greenhouse farmers to achieve predictable, higher yields of high-quality vegetables. The project addresses the critical challenge of providing a growing population with healthy food by optimizing greenhouse cultivation practices.
It takes a comprehensive approach to greenhouse monitoring and optimization through the following methods:
IoT sensors: Measure external environmental parameters like temperature, humidity, and light.
Drainage water scale: Monitors water content and quality of the growing medium to determine optimal watering needs.
Image analysis: Tracks plant growth and health through image capture and software analysis. This helps identify the impact of environmental factors and guide interventions.
The FitoWise monitoring system will be rigorously evaluated in greenhouses located in Greece and Hungary. Controlled experiments will assess the system's reliability in providing decision-making support. Furthermore, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) will be used to evaluate the environmental impact of integrating FitoWise into greenhouse operations, ensuring sustainable practices.
